[Beauty Review] Mary Kay® Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick ❤
Do you know that lipstick can instantly make your day better? Anybody agrees with me on this? Women have always worn lipstick to make themselves more attractive, from ancient times to now. Lipstick draws attention to the lips and makes them stand out, thus adding to a woman’s overall attractiveness.
Today I will be taking the opportunity to review the new Mary Kay® Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick. I used to hate applying lipstick but now, I have been adding more and more colours into my lipstick collection. I received a total of 4 shades of Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick which are Rich Truffle, Mauve Moment, Midnight Red and Poppy Please out of 8 shades. The rest of the shades are Bashful You, Powerful Pink, Always Apricot and Crushed Berry.
The new Mary Kay® Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick
Mary Kay® Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick is the first full-coverage lipstick by Mary Kay to utilise gel microsphere technology for rich, stay-true colour that lasts for hours - without leaving lips looking or feeling dry. Anyway before I move on to the review of the shades of lipstick I have received, do take a few minutes to watch the video of Mary Kay® Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick.
With the Advanced "Cushion Matrix Technology", it utilises ultra fine silica microspheres to embed and retain colour on the surface of the lip. Mary Kay® Gel Semi- Matte Lipstick contains ingredients such as sunflower oil and jojoba esters, to help condition the lips. Pigments are milled for 24 hours for an ultra fine, smooth colour.
Here are the swatches of the lipsticks which I have received from Mary Kay® - Rich Truffle, Mauve Moment, Midnight Red and Poppy Please. The colours are easily swatched on my wrist and the color of the lipstick is very pigmented. It leaves a super soft yet matte texture on the wrist.

Here are some tips to share with you guys on how to apply lipstick. A few extra steps can not only make your lipstick last longer, but also appear smoother and crisper. Let start off by exfoliating the lips.
This is important as it will help to remove any dead skin cells and give you a smooth canvas to work on. It will also help your lips feel softer. You can exfoliate your lips by gently brushing them with a toothbrush for a few seconds or rubbing them with a damp towel. You can use a lip scrub to rub against the lips softly.

After the lip scrub, you can now work on with the smooth canvas of your lips. Next step is to apply lip balm before applying lipstick. You can skip this step if you find that the lip scrub works wonder on your lips. Make sure to leave the lip balm on the lips for few minutes before wiping it off. While waiting, you can then work on other parts of the face. (:

Alright it is time to review the 4 shades of Mary Kay® Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick. With this semi-matte lipstick, you can saturate your lips, delivering a gorgeous level of colour clarity and it is a breeze to update your look to match your mood or fit your style.
Applying the lipstick on the lips could be a little hard for me. Since my lips are not even for both sides, normally I will use a LIP BRUSH to outline my lips with the shade I am using before applying the rest of the lips. This is definitely a good tips to follow. (:
With this semi-matte lipstick, it delivers a gorgeous level of colour clarity and it is fun to update the look to match my mood or fit my style with various shades of Mary Kay® Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick. Let me begin with the shade of Rich Truffle. This shade is more on the brown or nude side. If you are looking into going for natural or daily look you can opt for this shade.

You can go with natural shades of eyeshadow and apply this Rich Truffle on the lips and here you go! This can be also your everyday look when you go to work or casual outing with friends.

If you are looking for bold look, opt for this dark red hue lipstick from Midnight Red shade. This dark red shade creates bolder look for women who wants the focus on their lips rather on the eyes. Normally those who go for this look are those who attends party or night events with a bunch of friends.

You can also choose to soften the colour of the shades on the lips if you find it too bold for you. What you can do it to dabbing the Midnight Red with your fingertips and lightly soften the colour on the lips. Or you can also choose to create gradient effect on the lips by focusing the colour more on the inner lips.

If you are looking for bright red to apply on your lips, this Poppy Please will be the right shade to look for.

Honestly speaking, I am not a huge fan of bright red lipstick. I find it hard to apply bright shades on my lips as the shape of my lips are somewhat uneven and it's too thin. So what will I normally do is to use this colour to create gradient effect on my lips instead of applying the shade with the whole lips. You can also choose to apply darker eyeshadow or create smokey look which will also help to focus on my eyes rather than on my uneven shape of lips.

With this Mary Kay Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick, I am able to get the full colour opacity with only a few swipes. The lightweight formula glides on smoothly and cushions my lips, leaving them soft and supple. The colour on the other hand is somewhat pigmented and I love it. They are not even drying which is a blessing in a matte lipstick. Some of the matte lipsticks I have tend to make my lips feel dry after an hour or two which I find it unpleasant especially the lines and cracks on my lips start to appear.
The lipstick is also formulated to provide a soft-focus effect, with optical dancers included to scatter light and blur the appearance of minor imperfections. Best of all, the clear-top window makes finding your favourite semi-matte shade a snap, whether it's in a cluttered handbag or makeup drawer. This gel formula is the everyday lipstick every girl has been longing for.
